So Venom isn’t even out yet but it seems Sony is keen to press on with sequels after Tom Hardy has revealed that he’s signed on to star as Eddie Brock for another two Venom films.
He revealed in an interview with Total Film Magazine “I’m open to whatever you want to do with it. We’ve signed up for three of them. So it’s very much an open case. We’ll see what people’s responses are to it. I think it’s an awesome character. I love playing both of them, It’s an amuse-bouche, and for Sony, it’s the Venom-verse launched in isolation, as it were. We all prepped for it to be a standalone universe. So whatever Sony want to attach to it at a later date, it’s a fulcrum piece. But let’s see what happens when it lands.”
This isn’t really surprising news as its been common knowledge for a while now that Sony wanted Venom to kick off their own Cinematic universe or even possibly getting the character to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.
The question still remains which characters will see in the new cinematic universe and whether well see a new version of Spiderman after it looks for the time being at least that Tom Hollands Spiderman is a big part of the MCU and Venom is not.
We’ll have to wait until October 5th to see the first instalment of Venom but one things for sure, we’ll be seeing of Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock very soon!
So, The dust has now settled and Danny Boyle has officially left Bond 25 throwing the project into turmoil. This after all was a film that was well into pre production with a November 2019 release date already set, a deadline it now looks set to miss.
The reason for Boyle’s departure? Well we’ve not been told anything officially except for ‘creative differences’ with the rumour mill stating it’s with regards to the films villain and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson being unhappy with Boyle’s and co writers John Hodges final draft of the script. Whatever the reason the fact remains the same Danny Boyle is no longer directing Bond 25.
So lets look forward now and few names have already been mentioned who could be replacing Boyle in the directors chair Christopher McQuarrie, Jean-Marc Vallee, David Mckenzie and Yann Demange have all been mentioned. After asking our community on social media it seems to Christopher Nolan would be a firm fans favourite however the name I hearing a lot at the moment is Wright………….Edgar Wright.
The original report from this has come from Deadline and its seems Wright along with Jean-Marc Vallee could be a genuine front runner. Edgar Wright is famous for his collaborations with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as well as the cult film Scott Pilgrim vs The World. He was on board to direct Ant Man but left the project before filming commenced. The reception to Wright has been well, mixed to say the least, fans just don’t think he’s the right fit the Bond.
Me personally I think the jury is still out, Wright has had good success with smaller comedy based films but Bond 25 would be a very different proposition, to take the directors chair on the latest edition of a film franchise that spans over 50 years with millions of fans is no easy task especially with the troubles that the production of this project already has.
Who will be the next director of Bond 25 still remains to be seen as its still all just hear say and rumours but sooner rather than later a new director needs to be named so the project can get back on track and we can all look forward to the next James Bond!
